Best Practices for Recording Life Events Consistently
Small habits that keep your Life Events history genuinely useful later.
Recommendations
- Record Life Events close to when they happen, not in a batch months later, details (officiant, exact date, notes) are easiest to capture accurately while fresh
- Keep "Other" event titles consistent (always "Child Dedication," never varying phrasing) if you plan to ever search or report on a specific kind of event
- Make sure both members are already properly registered before creating a Wedding record, since it requires selecting two existing members rather than typing names freely
- Confirm a person is registered as a member before creating a Baptism record, Sermfy's baptism tracking currently supports members only
None of Sermfy's Life Events tabs currently support editing after the fact through a bulk tool, correcting a mistaken entry means editing that individual record directly.
Best practice
Assign Life Events recording responsibility to a specific person or small team rather than "whoever remembers," consistency in how records are entered matters more for long-term usefulness than the exact person doing the entering.
