Using Merge Fields in a Broadcast

Personalize every message automatically with @@ merge fields, without writing a separate message per recipient.

How merge fields work

Type @@ anywhere in your message editor to open a searchable list of available fields. Sermfy replaces each merge field with the correct value for every individual recipient during delivery, you write the message once.

What's available

  • Member - @@first_name, @@last_name, @@full_name, @@member_code
  • Church - @@church_name, @@branch_name
  • Event - @@event_name, @@event_date, @@event_time, @@venue
  • Giving - @@amount, @@receipt_number
  • Groups - @@group_name
  • System - @@today, @@current_year

A merge field only resolves correctly if that data actually exists for the recipient, @@event_name in a broadcast unrelated to any specific event will send blank or malformed for every recipient, only use event/giving fields in messages actually tied to that context.

Best practice

Preview your message with the merge fields visible before sending, and mentally substitute a real example (a real first name, a real church name) to make sure the sentence still reads naturally once filled in.
