Deleting a Branch: What's Blocked and Why

The two situations where Sermfy won't let you delete a branch, and what to do instead.

When deletion is blocked

Sermfy prevents deleting a branch in two situations:

  1. It's your main branch - every church needs exactly one main branch as its structural anchor
  2. It still has members assigned - deleting a branch with active members would leave those records without a valid location

What to do instead

If a branch is genuinely closing, first reassign or transfer its members to another branch (via Bulk Edit's Branch field, see Bulk-Editing Multiple Members at Once), then delete the now-empty branch.

There's currently no bulk "move everyone from Branch A to Branch B" wizard beyond Bulk Edit, plan a closure with enough lead time to reassign members deliberately rather than all at once under pressure.

Best practice

Before closing any branch, export its member list first (see Exporting Members to Excel or PDF), so you have a clean record of exactly who was there at the time of closure, independent of wherever those members get reassigned afterward.
