Troubleshooting: Why a Member Isn't Showing in Auto-Assignment

The most common, checkable reasons an absentee ends up Flagged instead of assigned.

Checklist to work through

  1. Does the member actually belong to a group? No group membership at all means neither Group Leader nor Smart mode has anything to match against
  2. Is that group in your Primary or Secondary Category? A group that exists but sits outside both configured categories won't be checked
  3. Does the group have an approved leader? A group with only a pending, unapproved leader request has no one to assign to (see Approving a Group Leader Request)
  4. Is your Follow-up Team mode maxed out? If you're in Follow-up Team or Both (Smart) mode, every team member may already be at their Max Active Assignments limit

Flagging isn't a bug, it's the designed outcome when none of these conditions are met, the fix is almost always a data or configuration gap, not a system malfunction.

Best practice

When you notice a pattern of Flagged absentees from the same group or category, treat it as a prompt to check that group's leadership status, rather than manually reassigning each case individually without addressing the underlying gap.
