Allowing Partial Payments on a Group Contribution

Turn on partial payments so members can pay a contribution down in installments instead of all at once.

What partial payments change

By default, a payment toward a contribution has to be recorded in full, if you turn on partial payments for a specific contribution, members can instead pay it down in installments over time, with each payment recorded separately.

Where this setting lives

The partial payment option is set per contribution, not globally, so you could allow partial payments on dues while requiring funeral collection payments to be paid in full, each contribution's rules stand on their own.

How payments get validated

Whenever a payment is recorded, the amount is checked automatically against that contribution's own rules, if partial payments aren't allowed, the system expects the full amount, if they are allowed, smaller amounts are accepted and tracked toward the total.

Best practice

Turn on partial payments for anything with a fixed amount that members are likely to pay off gradually, like dues collected over a season, and leave it off for smaller one-time collections where a single full payment is simpler to track.
