How Sermfy's Finance Ledger Works

A plain-language look at the double-entry system running behind every simple giving form.

Double-entry, under the hood

Every financial transaction in Sermfy, tithe, offering, fund gift, is recorded using double-entry bookkeeping behind the scenes, even though the church-facing UI shows a simple single form. This keeps your totals internally consistent and auditable.

Why this matters for you

In practice, this means every number you see, a Fund's running total, a member's giving history, a monthly Finance report, is derived from the same underlying ledger rather than several separately-maintained counters that could drift out of sync with each other.

You don't need to understand double-entry accounting to use Finance day-to-day, the forms you fill in stay simple, the ledger structure exists purely to keep the numbers trustworthy behind them.

Reporting on the ledger

Finance reports and dashboard giving stats both read from this same ledger, so a transaction recorded manually and one from Online Giving are treated identically once they land in the system.
