Understanding Automation Settings

What automations are, where to find them, and how automated sends are tracked separately from a manual broadcast.

What automations are

Sermfy can automatically send a message when something happens in your church data, without anyone clicking Send. These are called automations, and they're separate from a manual Broadcast in Communication, an automation is triggered by an event (a birthday arriving, a service closing, a registration completing) rather than a person deciding to send something today.

Where to find them

Automations live under Settings, then Automation. Each automation type has its own on/off toggle and its own message template.

What's available today

  • Birthday - sends a message to a member on their birthday
  • Attendance Report - sends a summary after a service closes
  • Event Registration Confirmation - sends a confirmation the moment someone registers for an event
  • Giving Receipt - sends a receipt automatically after an online or recorded gift

How sends are tracked

Every automated message is logged to the automation dispatch log, so you can see exactly when a message went out, to whom, and for which trigger, even though no one manually pressed Send.

Turning an automation on doesn't resend anything for events that already happened. It only applies going forward.
