Asking Sera a Question: Getting Started with Ask Sera

A quick-start guide to opening a conversation with Ask Sera and asking your first question.

Opening a conversation with Sera

Ask Sera is a chat, you type a plain-language question about your own church and Sera answers using your church's real data, there's no special syntax to learn, you can ask it the way you'd ask a staff member who knows the numbers.

What kind of questions to ask

Good starting questions are ones with a concrete answer in your data, how many members do we have, which members have been absent and for how long, how many first-time visitors did we get this month, Sera is built to answer exactly this kind of question well.

Ask Sera only knows your own church's data, it isn't a general-purpose search engine, so questions work best when they're about your attendance, members, visitors, or how your church is using Sermfy, rather than general church-ministry advice unrelated to your numbers.

Best practice

Start with a simple, specific question rather than a broad one, "how many members missed last Sunday" will get you a sharper answer than "how are we doing," and you can always follow up to dig deeper.
