What Free is for
The Free plan is meant for a church evaluating Sermfy or running a genuinely small operation, it gives access to core record-keeping without a subscription commitment.
Signs you've outgrown it
- You're regularly hitting a usage limit (members, branches, or SMS credits) rather than occasionally brushing against it
- Your team needs features gated to paid tiers, multi-branch management, deeper automation, or expanded reporting
- SMS communication has become a core part of how you reach your congregation, not an occasional extra
Moving from Free to Basic doesn't require re-entering your data, everything you've already built carries over directly, an upgrade only changes what's unlocked going forward.
Best practice
Don't wait until a limit actively blocks something important (like an urgent broadcast) to consider upgrading, review your usage against the Free tier's limits periodically so a plan change is a proactive decision, not a scramble.
