Removing a Member from a Family

Take a member out of a household unit without affecting their own record.

How removal works

From a Family's detail page, remove a specific member from the household, this only affects the family link, the member's own profile, attendance, and giving history are completely unaffected.

When you'd do this

Common reasons include a data-entry correction (someone added to the wrong family), a household genuinely splitting (an adult child moving out and starting their own family unit), or a member transferring to a different existing family.

If someone is moving from one family to another (rather than leaving family tracking altogether), remove them from the old family and add them to the new one, there's no direct "transfer" action between two families today.

Best practice

Double-check you're removing the right person from the right family before confirming, especially in larger households where names might be similar (parents and adult children sharing a surname, for example).
