Setting a Child's Primary Guardian

Explains how to mark one guardian as the Primary contact on a child's record and update it as circumstances change.

One Primary guardian per child

A child's record can have several guardians attached, but exactly one of them is marked Primary at any given time, this is the guardian your team treats as the main point of contact for that child.

Changing who's Primary

Family situations change, so the Primary guardian marked on a child's record isn't locked in, you can update which guardian holds that marking as circumstances change, without needing to remove and re-add anyone else already linked to the child.

Best practice

Set the Primary guardian to whichever adult is most reachable day-to-day, rather than defaulting to whoever registered the child first, that's the number your team will actually be dialing if a decision needs to be made quickly during a service.
